Entry Requirements

  • To enrol in this Level 5 Diploma in Information Technology course, you must be at least 18 years old and have a level 4 qualification.
  • If you are an international student, equivalent qualifications include a high school diploma or other recognised pre-university qualifications. If you are a non-native speaker of English, you will need an IELTS score of 6.0, CEFR level B2, or equivalent.

In this unit, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of network security within modern IT environments. You will explore the principles of threat prevention, detection, and response, learning how to safeguard networks against common cyberattacks and vulnerabilities. Topics include authentication protocols, malware and intrusion prevention, remote access security, web and email security, directory services protection, and disaster recovery planning. You will also develop practical skills in implementing security measures, managing secure data transfers, and responding to incidents effectively.


This unit introduces you to the fundamentals of building dynamic web applications using C# in the ASP.NET framework. You will learn how to write and structure server-side code, create user-friendly interfaces, and connect web applications to databases through component-based programming. By the end of the unit, you will have developed the skills to design, build, and deploy your own interactive web applications using industry-standard programming practices.


This unit provides essential knowledge for administering both Linux and Windows systems. You will learn how to manage users and groups, configure file systems, automate tasks using shell scripting, and maintain key network services such as DHCP, mail servers, and DNS. The unit also covers backup and restore policies, performance tuning, and the use of administrative tools to maintain system integrity. Whether working on a standalone system or across networked environments, you will gain the practical skills required to support IT infrastructure efficiently.


This unit focuses on the concepts and practical skills needed for configuring routers and switches to support scalable and efficient computer networks. You will learn how to implement dynamic routing protocols, including RIP, EIGRP, and OSPF, and understand how data is directed through a multi-area network. Through hands-on activities and simulations, you will gain experience in setting up, troubleshooting, and optimizing network routing and switching in real-world scenarios.


This unit equips you with the skills to design robust and scalable networks that meet organizational requirements. You will explore hierarchical network design principles, network scalability, and performance optimization. Topics include gathering and analysing network requirements, addressing bandwidth and latency issues, and integrating various types of network infrastructure. By the end of the unit, you will be able to plan and document complex network architectures that support reliable communication across multiple systems.

Assessment

The course is delivered entirely online, allowing you to start at any time and study at your own pace. Each unit includes 40 hours of guided online learning, supplemented by an additional 30-50 hours of optional materials, such as recommended exercises, readings, digital resources, and self-assessment tasks.

To complete the course, you will need to submit 6 online assignments per unit, each ranging from 2,000 to 3,000 words.
